Alles kann, nichts muss: Unser Urlaubsmotto auf Sanibel

Ich fasse mich heute mal kurz, es ist gleich halb neun am Abend und mit dem Essen im Bauch holt mich gerade der Jetlag ein. Ich war wieder um kurz nach sechs wach, was  dann wieder dazu geführt hat, dass ich zum Sonnenaufgang am Strand war! Danach war Armin Golf spielen und ich bin mit dem Fahrrad zum alten Leuchtturm an der Ostspitze der Insel gefahren. Gleich in der Nähe liegt der Fishing Pier von Sanibel.

"The "Sanibel Island Light," otherwise known as the "Sanibel Lighthouse" is located on the eastern end of the 12-mile long island. The idea to build the lighthouse was first proposed by some of the settlers of the island in 1833, when they petitioned for one to be built. Along the way there were other recommendations for a lighthouse to be built. After the Civil War, there was a request made with the idea that it would cause an increase in trade, and travelers would be able to find the island more easily. However, no real action was taken until 1883 when they finally received the $50,000 they needed to fund the construction. The building of the lighthouse finally started in February of 1884. Although they faced complications along the way, in only a few short months the lighthouse was finally completed. It was first lit on August 20^th, 1884 with kerosene oil. In order to get to the top of the lighthouse, the lighthouse keeper had to walk up an external spiral staircase." http://sanibellighthouse.com/history/

Der Morgen brachte viele Tierbeobachtungen: Verschiedene Reiherarten und Ibisse, kleine und größere Fische, ein Delphin, Schmetterlinge und Fischadler ( Ospreys). Nur auf die Gopher Tortoise (Schildkröte) warte ich noch. 

Am Nachmittag haben wir die Inseln dann mit dem Auto weiter erkundet. Über eine kurze Brücke kommt man nach Captiva, der nächsten Insel. Ganz schön eindrucksvoll, was hier an Ferienhäusern steht. Nicht nur deshalb kommt der Gedanke und die Erinnerung an Jekyll Island oder Newport auf!  Architektonisch ist es überwiegend Tara Mets Adobe. Armin fand die Häuser am Golfplatz sogar ein bisschen "Too much" in ihrem Prunk und Protz. 

Zum Abschluss waren wir in Bailey's Supermarket. Mag sein, dass er teurer ist als die Märkte auf dem Festland ( weshalb wir vorher den Grundeinkauf ja in Fort Myers gemacht hatten), aber es macht Spaß durch die Gänge zu gehen und die guten Sachen zu sehen, die man am liebsten alle kaufen würde, was sich aber nicht lohnt, da wir ja nur 6 Nächte auf der Insel sind. Man merkt, dass hier zahlkräftiges Publikum ist!
